Spiral Stair House Renovation

An open-plan home brought back with drywall patching, new plywood subfloor and LVP flooring, finished around a black metal spiral staircase.

Old tile and damaged walls

When we started, the old tile floors were still down and the walls needed repair. The drywall around the main room and the stair area had damaged sections. Those had to be patched before anything else could be finished.

Walls first, then floors

We started with the walls. We patched and mudded the drywall in the main rooms while the old tile was still down. In the stair area we protected the floor and patched there too. Doing the walls before the new floor keeps mud, dust and dropped tools off the finished surface. This is the core of our drywall installation and repair work.

With the walls done, we moved to the floors. In the living room, our installer laid luxury vinyl plank over new plywood subfloor. A flat, sound subfloor keeps LVP from flexing or separating at the seams later, so it is worth getting right before the planks go down. Our flooring installation page explains this in more detail.

We carried the LVP through the whole open floor plan so the space reads as one room.

Around the spiral stair

The open floor plan now has new LVP throughout and ceiling fans overhead. At the back stands a black metal spiral staircase with wood treads.

That staircase is the standout feature of the house. With the walls repaired and a continuous floor around it, it sits in a finished room instead of a worn one. This is typical of the whole-home renovation work we take on.
